- Okay friends… welcome to Cupid’s Café at my house, where everything is Valentine’s themed, strawberry-forward, red velvet adjacent, and full of cozy lovey dovey vibes. This chocolate covered strawberry latte is officially on the seasonal menu, and let me tell you, it is dangerously good. I had never seen a chocolate covered strawberry latte before, so naturally I decided it was time to change that and wow… best decision ever.
Yes, it takes a few extra minutes to make the homemade strawberry syrup and chocolate syrup, but I promise it’s a thousand percent worth it. Once those are done, your latte comes together in literal minutes. It tastes like a fancy coffee shop drink but made right in your own kitchen, slippers optional.
Ingredient Breakdown:
- Strawberries: These are the heart of the strawberry syrup and bring that bright, fruity flavor that makes this latte taste like a real chocolate-covered strawberry. Frozen strawberries work beautifully because they’re picked at peak ripeness and release lots of juice when heated. Fresh strawberries also work great if they’re in season. Either way, they provide natural sweetness and that gorgeous pink color.
- Granulated Sugar: Sugar sweetens both syrups and helps create that classic syrupy texture. It balances the tartness of the strawberries and the bitterness of the cocoa powder. Without it, the syrups would taste flat and overly sharp. Think of it as the glue that holds all the flavors together.
- Water: Water helps dissolve the sugar and extract flavor from the strawberries and cocoa powder. It creates the liquid base for both syrups so everything simmers smoothly. As it cooks down, it thickens slightly and concentrates flavor. Simple, but absolutely essential.
- Vanilla Extract: Vanilla adds warmth and depth to both syrups and makes everything taste more dessert-like. It softens the sharp edges of the chocolate and enhances the strawberry flavor. Just a teaspoon goes a long way. This is one of those small ingredients that makes a big difference.
- Cocoa Powder: This gives you that rich chocolate flavor without needing melted chocolate. Cocoa powder creates a deep, slightly bitter base that balances perfectly with the sweet strawberry syrup. It’s what makes this latte taste like an actual chocolate-covered strawberry instead of just sweet coffee.
- Milk: Milk adds creaminess and mellows out the bold espresso and syrups. You can use dairy or non-dairy depending on your preference. Whole milk makes it extra rich, while almond or oat milk keep things lighter. It’s what turns this from flavored coffee into a true latte.
- Espresso: Espresso brings the coffee kick and balances all the sweetness. Two ounces is the sweet spot, strong enough to stand up to the syrups without overpowering them. If you don’t have an espresso machine, very strong brewed coffee works too. This is where the latte part really shines.
- Heavy Cream (for cold foam): Heavy cream creates that thick, dreamy foam on top of iced lattes. It whips up beautifully and gives you that coffee shop style finish. Mixed with a little milk and strawberry syrup, it becomes the cutest pink cold foam. Totally optional, but highly encouraged.
