Not to be dramatic, but this bakery style blueberry muffin recipe is one of my all time favorites. It is so good that my family is constantly begging me to make another batch. The muffins are light and fluffy with juicy blueberry pockets in every bite, and that crunchy, sweet topping is truly the main character. I would not judge you at all if you ate the tops first. Let us dive into this delicious recipe.

Ingredients:
- Melted unsalted butter: Melted unsalted butter gives these muffins the best rich, buttery flavor while letting you control the salt. Since it is melted, it mixes super easily into the batter and helps keep the crumb soft and moist. It is one of the big reasons these taste like they came straight from a bakery case.
- Granulated sugar: Granulated sugar adds sweetness and also helps create that soft, tender crumb we all love in a muffin. It dissolves smoothly into the wet ingredients so the batter stays even and not grainy. It also helps the tops bake up golden and slightly crisp.
- Eggs: Eggs add structure, richness, and moisture to the batter. They help the muffins rise tall and give that fluffy, bakery style texture instead of something dense or dry. Make sure they are at room temperature so they mix in smoothly.
- Vanilla extract: Vanilla rounds out all the flavors and adds that cozy bakery vibe in the background. Even though it is a small amount, it makes the blueberry flavor taste sweeter and more well balanced. I always recommend using pure vanilla extract for the best flavor.
- Sour cream or Greek yogurt: Sour cream or Greek yogurt is my secret for super moist muffins that stay soft for days. It adds richness and a slight tang that keeps the batter from being too sweet. The acidity also reacts with the leavening to help the muffins rise nice and tall.
- Milk: Milk thins out the batter to the perfect scoopable consistency and adds extra moisture. It helps the muffins bake up with a soft, even crumb instead of feeling heavy. I usually use whole milk, but any milk you have on hand will work here.
- All purpose flour: All purpose flour gives the muffins structure without making them tough. It has just enough protein to hold everything together while still keeping the crumb light and tender. Make sure you spoon and level your flour so you do not accidentally add too much.
- Baking powder: Baking powder is the main lift in these muffins and gives you that pretty domed top. It reacts in the oven to create air bubbles that make the muffins light and fluffy. Fresh baking powder is key, so if yours has been sitting for a while, it might be time to replace it.
- Salt: Salt might seem small, but it makes a huge difference in flavor. It balances the sweetness, brings out the vanilla, and keeps the muffins from tasting flat. A little bit goes a long way, so do not skip it.
- Blueberries: Blueberries are the star here and give those juicy bursts in every single bite. You can use fresh or frozen blueberries. Fresh give a firmer bite and bright pops of color, while frozen are super convenient and work great straight from the freezer.
- Streusel or sugar topping: The topping is what really makes these feel bakery style. A simple mix of sugar, flour, butter, or even just a sprinkle of coarse sugar, bakes up into a crunchy, sweet layer on top. It gives the muffins that crackly, golden crown you want to bite right into.
Why You Will Love These Bakery Style Blueberry Muffins

What Makes These “Bakery Style”?
When I say bakery style, I mean all the things we love about coffee shop muffins. These have a super moist, tender crumb thanks to the combo of sour cream and milk, plus plenty of blueberries so every bite has fruit. They also have tall, domed tops and a crunchy, sweet topping that gives them that extra bit of texture. All together, they feel like something you would grab with a latte, but you are making them at home.
What Is a Crumble Topping?
A crumble or streusel topping is usually a mix of butter, sugar, and flour that bakes into a crunchy, sweet layer on top of your muffins. In this recipe, it adds the perfect contrast to the soft, fluffy muffin and the juicy blueberries. If you love muffin tops, the crumble is what takes them to the next level.
Fresh vs Frozen Blueberries
You can use either fresh or frozen blueberries in this recipe. Here is what I recommend:
- Fresh blueberries: Fresh berries give a firmer texture and really pretty pops of color in the crumb. Just rinse them gently, pat them dry, and they are ready to go. Make sure they are dry so they do not add extra moisture to the batter.
- Frozen blueberries: Frozen blueberries are super convenient and usually more budget friendly, especially when berries are out of season. Use them straight from the freezer and fold them into the batter quickly. They may tint the batter a little more blue, but the flavor is still amazing.

Nutrition
Here is how I like to store and reheat these Bakery Style Blueberry Muffins so they stay soft and delicious:
- Cool completely: Let the muffins cool fully to room temperature before storing so they do not steam and get soggy.
- Store in an airtight container: Place the muffins in an airtight container or resealable bag. You can keep them at room temperature for 2 to 3 days.
- Refrigerate or freeze: For longer storage, refrigerate for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months. If freezing, I like to wrap each muffin individually or layer them in a container with parchment.
To reheat the muffins:
- Thaw (if frozen): If your muffins are frozen, let them thaw in the fridge overnight or at room temperature for about an hour.
- Oven method: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place muffins on a baking sheet and warm for 8 to 12 minutes until heated through and the tops are slightly crisp again.
- Microwave method: Place one muffin on a microwave safe plate and heat on high for 15 to 25 seconds until just warm. Be careful not to overheat or they can dry out.
They are always best warm, with the tops a little crunchy and the centers soft and fluffy.
Tips & Tricks for the Best Bakery Style Blueberry Muffins
Want those tall, golden muffins that look like they came from a bakery? Here are my go to tips:
1. Use Room Temperature Ingredients
Let your butter, eggs, and milk come to room temperature before mixing. This helps everything combine smoothly and gives you a softer, more even crumb.
2. Do Not Overmix the Batter
Overmixing is the fastest way to end up with dense muffins. Stir the wet and dry ingredients together until they are just combined. A few little lumps in the batter are totally fine.
3. Toss Blueberries in Flour
Lightly tossing the blueberries in a spoonful of flour before folding them into the batter helps prevent them from sinking to the bottom. This keeps the berries more evenly distributed throughout each muffin.
4. Bake at a Higher Temperature First
Starting the muffins at 425°F for about 5 minutes helps them rise up quickly and form those signature domed tops. After that, you will lower the temperature to 350°F to finish baking.
5. Fill Muffin Liners to the Top
Unlike cupcakes, muffins actually do better when you fill the liners almost to the brim. This gives you that big, bakery style muffin top that everyone goes for first.
6. Do Not Skip the Sugar Topping
A sprinkle of coarse sugar or that streusel mixture on top makes such a big difference. It bakes into a crisp, golden crust that feels like something you would get from a cafe.
7. Let Muffins Cool in the Pan Before Moving
Let the muffins cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack. This helps them set up, but if you leave them in the pan too long, the bottoms can get a little soggy from trapped steam.
Follow these tips and you will have bakery style blueberry muffins that are soft, fluffy, and totally irresistible every single time.
