Ranking the Best Banana Bread in Maui
Trying banana bread in Maui felt mandatory.
If you spend any time planning a trip to Maui, banana bread comes up constantly. Road to Hana stops, tiny farm stands, cafés, bakeries, roadside counters. It is everywhere. And as someone who is deeply, seriously committed to banana bread, I fully leaned in and treated this like a personal mission.
So yes, I ranked every banana bread stop I tried in Maui.
Some were warm and dreamy. Some were fluffy and flavorful. Some were good, but not quite worth the hype. And one was so close to the vibe of my own Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Banana Bread that I immediately noticed.
Here is my full Maui banana bread ranking, from lowest to highest, plus a few spots I still need to try next time.
My Maui Banana Bread Rankings
7. Twin Falls Food Truck

Rating: 2/10
This was the biggest miss for me.
It was a $7 mini loaf, and unfortunately it just did not deliver. The texture was rubbery, and it lacked the rich banana flavor I was hoping for. Since banana bread in Maui has such a strong reputation, this one felt especially disappointing.
I love a loaf that is moist, soft, and flavorful, and this one was none of those things.
6. Cocoa Bananas Farm

Rating: 6.9/10
We ended up here while stuck in the rain, which honestly gave the stop a little extra character. We grabbed the double chocolate banana bread, and while the chocolate flavor was really good, the loaf itself leaned a bit dense for me.
Not bad at all, just not one of the standouts.

If you love chocolate-heavy bakes, you would probably still enjoy it. It reminded me a little of the richer vibe of Double Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, but denser and not quite as balanced.
5. Pau Bakery

Rating: 7/10
This one was solid.
It was listed as chocolate chip banana bread, and the loaf itself was definitely moist and flavorful. My main issue was that it barely had any chocolate chips beyond a few on top, so the name felt a little misleading.
Still good, just not memorable enough to rank higher.
4. Garden Grove Café

Rating: 7.6/10
This one surprised me in a good way.
It was light, fluffy, and super flavorful, which made it stand out right away. If you prefer a softer, more airy banana bread instead of something extra dense or rich, this would be a really good pick.
It did not have the same wow factor as the top three for me, but it was definitely one of the better mini loaves I tried on the island.
3. Halfway to Hana Banana Bread Sundae

Rating: 9.1/10
This was such a fun stop.
Technically, this was not just banana bread on its own. It was a full banana bread sundae with a thick warm slice of banana bread topped with vanilla bean ice cream, whipped cream, and caramel sauce. So yes, it was a little extra. But in the best way.
The banana bread itself was moist and flavorful, and the fact that it was served warm absolutely pushed it higher in the rankings. Warm banana bread just hits differently.
This one felt more dessert-forward, but I would still absolutely order it again.
2. Leoda’s

Rating: 9.1/10
Leoda’s was excellent.
This loaf was light and fluffy, but what really made it stand out was the brown sugar oat streusel on top. That extra texture and sweetness made it feel a little more bakery-style and a little more special than a standard slice.
It had that comforting homemade banana bread feel while still being polished enough to remember. I can totally understand why this one has such a good reputation.
If you love banana bread with a little topping moment, this is such a good stop.
1. Mahealani Banana Bread

Rating: 9.4/10
This was my favorite banana bread I tried in Maui.

I got the chocolate chip mini loaf, and it was the closest one to my own viral Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, which is probably why I loved it so much immediately. It was incredibly moist, had a generous amount of chocolate chips, and just tasted like a really well-made loaf.
This one had the best balance of texture, flavor, and overall satisfaction for me.
It was cozy, rich, soft, and absolutely the one I would go back for first.
Final Ranking, Best to Worst
1. Mahealani Banana Bread
2. Leoda’s
3. Halfway to Hana Banana Bread Sundae
4. Garden Grove Café
5. Pau Bakery
6. Cocoa Bananas Farm
7. Twin Falls Food Truck
Banana Bread Stops I Still Want to Try
These were on my list, but I did not make it to them in time:
- Aunty Sandy’s Banana Bread
- Julia’s Best Banana Bread
- Maui Bread Co.
Aunty Sandy’s was the one I especially wanted to try, but they were sold out by the time we stopped. Which honestly just confirms what everyone says. If you are doing Road to Hana and want the best chance of getting the popular banana bread stops, leave early.
Very early.
What Makes Great Banana Bread, According to Me
At this point, I have had enough banana bread to be extremely opinionated about it.
The best banana bread should be:
- super moist, but not gummy
- flavorful and banana-forward
- soft with a tender crumb
- rich enough to feel satisfying
- even better if served warm
- and if there are chocolate chips involved, there better be enough of them
That is part of why I loved Mahealani so much. It checked the boxes I always want in a loaf. It gave me the same kind of cozy satisfaction I love in recipes like Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Crumble Banana Bread, Cinnamon Crunch Banana Bread, and Brown Butter Pistachio Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, just in Maui vacation form.
Maui banana bread is absolutely worth trying, but not every stop is created equal.
Some are more about the experience, some are genuinely excellent, and some are just fine. If I had to recommend the top ones based on what I tried, I would say Mahealani is my number one, Leoda’s is a very close second, and the Halfway to Hana banana bread sundae is worth ordering if you want something fun and extra.
And next time I am in Maui, I am absolutely going back with an even more aggressive banana bread game plan.
Because clearly, the ranking is never truly finished.
