Recipe Type: Dessert
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 6 minutes
Total Time: 21 minutes
Servings: 128 ( oz) jars of pure homemade vanilla extract

Ingredients

  • 50 whole vanilla bean pods I used Madagascar
  • 72 oz vodka a mid-range, unflavored vodka works great

Instructions

  • Prep your vanilla beans:Use a small knife or kitchen scissors to slice each vanilla bean lengthwise, exposing the sticky seeds inside. Leave about ½ inch connected at the top to keep the pod together.
  • Fill your jars:Place 4–5 vanilla beans into each 8 oz jar.
  • Pour in the vodka:Using a funnel (if you have one), fill each jar with about 6 oz of vodka—enough to completely submerge the beans.
  • Seal and shake:Tighten the lids and give each jar a nice shake to help the infusion start.
  • Let it steep:Store the jars in a cool, dark place like your pantry. Let them infuse for at least 6 months, but ideally up to 12 for maximum flavor. Shake once a week if you remember!
